Fun and Effective Math Learning for Kids
Client Overview
Matekvár is an educational platform specifically developed for the Hungarian market, designed to make practicing math enjoyable for children aged 7–9. The goal of the project was to create a modern digital environment where kids can learn fundamental math skills through playful activities, while parents can transparently manage subscriptions and track their child(ren)’s progress.
The Challenge
The platform needed to be accessible on web, Android, and iOS. To minimize development time and maintenance costs, the objective was not three separate apps, but a single shared codebase serving all platforms. Key requirements also included:
- Integration of a secure payment system (Stripe),
- A subscription model where parent profiles manage their children’s access.
Approach & Solution
We applied hybrid technology to serve all three platforms from a single codebase, ensuring stability and scalability.
Technology Stack
Next.js, Custom Code, TypeScript, and Supabase for a robust and scalable backend.
Design Process
The project started with careful system planning and Figma design, building on elements from the Next UI (now Hero UI) design system.
Structure
We implemented a hierarchical account system where parent profiles manage subscriptions and linked child profiles.
Development
The project was executed in two major, well-defined iterations:
- Multiplication Module:
- Practice up to the 20x multiplication table
- Multiple modes (learning, practice, test)
- Adjustable difficulty levels
- Includes a leaderboard to maintain motivation

- Content Expansion:
- Introduced Roman numerals
- Expanded addition and subtraction within the 20 and 100 number ranges

Innovative Features
We also added a unique “learning assistant” module that uses special alpha-wave audio tracks to help children focus and prepare mentally before starting their lessons.
Results
- Fast Development Cycle: The core platform was delivered in just 2.5–3 months from planning to implementation.
- Cost-Effective Cross-Platform Solution: Web and native mobile apps built from a single codebase.
- Modern Visual Experience: Clean, “simple but powerful” interface that combines aesthetic appeal with educational functionality.
